The historical town of West Wickham predates the Norman conquest of 1066 with West Wickham even being mentioned in the doomsday book. The Manor House (Wickham Court) was once owned by the Boleyn family; Anne Boleyn famously being the 2nd wife of King Henry VIII. West Wickham Manor House is now home to Wickham Court Preparatory School.

In 1965 the London Borough of Bromley absorbed West Wickham and the town of West Wickham became a suburb of Greater London.
